I’m in the middle of trying to sort out new windows for my little old place in Suffolk, and my brain is honestly melting from all the opinions out there. Some people swear by uPVC because it’s cheap and low‑maintenance, others keep telling me aluminium is the “grown‑up” choice and will last forever. I’m right by the coast, so salt air is a thing, and I really don’t want to make a pricey mistake I’ll regret in a few years

I was torn over this too and ended up chatting with the folks at hadleighglass.co.uk/ since they're local and know their stuff. They walked me through how both materials handle coastal air, which was a game changer. I ended up going aluminium for the slim frames and durability, but their uPVC looked solid too. Worth popping into their showroom if you want to see everything side by side before deciding
I’m by the coast too, and uPVC handled the salty air better for me with less fuss. Aluminium felt stronger, but needed more care and cost more. Winds and budget pushed me to uPVC.
I’m near the coast too, and aluminium with a proper marine finish has held up far better for me. My old uPVC frames discoloured and warped after a few salty winters.
